Conversational Solfege is a first-through-eighth grade
general music program that is designed to allow students to become
independent musical
thinkers with the help of a rich variety of folk and classical music. The levels of
Conversational Solfege do not correspond to particular grade levels. Instead,
each book contains varied song material so that the teacher can select
appropriate music for the lower grades or older beginners.
With the Conversational Solfege approach, music literacy starts with
great
literature and an “ear-before-eye” philosophy. Great songs are broken down
into their component parts and then
reassembled so that students can achieve a more in-depth understanding of the
music that they are exposed to. The ultimate goal is to create fully engaged,
independent musicians who can
hear, understand, read, write, compose, and improvise.
The Teacher’s Manual contains tone and rhythm card games, duplicating
templates, and engaging teaching techniques that make learning and
participating enjoyable and non-threatening. This edition also includes a new
assessment section by Dr. Clark Saunders, which enables teachers to
more completely track the progress of each student.
