El Reloj de la Calavera (The Skeleton Clock) Adapted by Gabriela Montoya-Stier
Item #:
G-11410
Price:
$19.95
The traditional Spanish-language chant El Reloj de la
Calavera contains ten rhyming verses which describe the
humorous activities of a skeleton that emerges from its tomb
when the clock strikes one and returns to it when the clock
strikes ten.
In this colorful picture book adaptation, the adventures of
the skeleton take place within a puppet theater on
Domingo Grande, the Sunday before Día de los
Muertos. Abuelito (grandpa) is taking care of his
twin granddaughters, while abuelita (grandma) buys
supplies for the ofrenda (offering). Along the way,
they
run into a playful troupe of marionette skeletons, las
calaveras, who have emerged from the graveyard to
celebrate
the holiday!
Music educator Gabriela Montoya-Stier shares inspiration from
her own heritage and childhood memories of the holiday, and
artist Adrienne Gaylord captures the humor, love, and magic of
this rhythmic chant in her vibrant illustrations.
This book includes a link to a free audio recording of the
chant, as well as multiple online resources.
Book with online resources, 32 pages.
