This autobiographical picture book tells the story of Troy Andrews (later known as
"Trombone Shorty") who grew up surrounded by the music of New Orleans and
dreamed of having a band of his own. Despite not being able to afford his own
instrument Andrews and his friends made music using found objects
and imitated the brass bands that paraded through the streets of New Orleans.
Once Andrews had a trombone in his hands he studied hard and began to develop
his
unique musical style. Since then he has toured the world with his band
Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue which combines jazz, blues and gospel
music with rock and roll, funk and hip hop. Bryan Collier's illustrations use a
combination of watercolor and collage to visually capture the sight and sound of
the music that is at the heart of Troy Andrews' story.Book, 40 pages.
